Stand Against Racist Ohio Legislation

Few conversations in the United States are as important as the ones surrounding race.  How we educate Ohio students about slavery, oppression, discrimination, and their impact on society today shape our students’ ability to function in a racially and ethnically diverse nation. House Bill 322 and House Bill 327 represent a serious threat to Ohio students’ capacity for understanding current racism and discrimination in our society and its historical antecedents.  We must not restrict our students’ ability to understand and engage with issues surrounding race simply because some aspects of these issues make some members of the historically dominant racial group uncomfortable.

A diverse group of concerned citizens from across the Miami Valley have put pen to paper and have crafted letters that we can use to voice our extreme concern at what impact these bills would have on our society.  Just fill in your name and send it off.

You will find everything you need at this link: www.takeaction4OH.com

Are you an educator?

Are you a student?

Are you a member of a group who would like to show their opposition to these bills?

And last, but by no means least, are you a voter?  We have a personalized letter for  EACH of you!

You will complete the letter and send one to each Committee Member (VIP right now, the bills are in front of them!) and one to your own Representative.

Do you know what your School Superintendent thinks about this bill? We have a specific letter to send to them – their opinion matters! (Don’t forget your Board of Education members as well – this letter can be edited easily to send to them).

Send one letter or send all that are applicable to you, and ask people in your network to send these same letters too.  Let’s keep up the pressure. We have to make our voices heard. This is too dangerous to ignore.  Your time and efforts are truly appreciated!
