Springboro Family is Victim of Verbal Attack
Sugarcreek Cares was contacted by an Asian American family in Springboro that was a victim of a racist verbal attack at their home. Below is a synopsis from the victim (with names removed for privacy). The victim reported the incident to the police.
“An incident that occurred in front of my house, around 8pm on Thursday, 4/29/2021. I was playing with my two little kids at home, when I suddenly heard a big crash or bang on the front door. I went to my storm door, and I observed two suspicious people (white, male, approximately teenaged), standing near the front of my house. After they made eye contact with me, they sneaked back to a car. The vehicle then drove past my house, and the occupants rolled down the windows and shouted verbal insults clearly at me, “F-you! Asian Hates! Go back to your country!” They left immediately after they said that to me with grins on their faces! I realized that was a verbal insult, I called my husband downstairs immediately and told him what just happened. We both agreed to call the police to report this incident. This is a serious crime, and this type of discrimination that shouldn’t happen at all in this nice community or anywhere else! We have zero tolerance with this type of behavior. Unfortunately, we were not able to identify the individuals, other than driving a small silver car, and three white teenagers, probably junior high or high school guys. However, some in the neighborhood have seen this vehicle in the area. My neighbor recognized the car and said this car was around several times recently–to a pond behind our back yard for fishing a few times. The next morning, I called the superintendent, Larry Hook, and left him the message. I was glad he called back so he could to take this case seriously. Second, I called the HOA to report this incident. Finally, I talked to a couple of families in my neighborhood. I am so grateful to have nice people around to comfort me and try to help as much as they could. One of the neighbors said he recognized the car that parked there before, and would take a picture of the car next time he sees it. This incident was mentally disturbing to me. I am now constantly alert when I hear abnormal noises from outside or a dog barks. I am losing sleep, wondering why anybody would do that to my family. I do not know how they knew we are Asian or live in this house. Will they return? What can I do to protect my two little kids at home? Also, I am concerned those kids could do that again to other people. I decided to take more action.”
